From Manager to Full-Time Author!

It’s been the dream for too many years to count to be a full-time writer, but it’s finally happened! And it feels as amazing as I imagined to respond to the “what do you do?” question with “I’m a writer.”

I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember, but I’ve never been able to be a writer first. My other career had to come first for so long, and writing had to be squeezed in around the edges. Sometimes I found time to write every day, or at least every week. But other times, I would go months without looking at my work-in-progress because of job fatigue, the need to spend my limited free time with family, and the myriad other obligations that we all have to fit into our days. And sometimes, when I could only squeeze another half hour into my day and still get a minimally reasonable amount of sleep, I had to choose mental health or physical health over writing.

Now, my days are (almost) completely mine, and I don’t have to live by a clock. If I want to write until the wee hours of the night, I do! If I get inspired in the morning, I grab a cup of coffee and sit by the picture window with the laptop on my lap as I watch the snow falling or the birds feeding. The great thing is, I can still be here for my family while also doing what I love.

It’s not all stress free, though – I have deadlines now that are no longer self-imposed, but publisher-imposed. That fact that I actually have a contract with a publisher still makes me giddy, and the stress is exhilerating now instead of exhausting.

I’m less than two months into my new career as only a writer, and I can’t wait for what each day brings.

Band of Bastards coming in 2024

After a lot of years of writing and rewriting, I can finally say I will be a published author! I am thrilled to have signed on with Dragonblade Publishing to bring my three book series of medieval romances, Band of Bastards, into the world in 2024. The series follows a band of elite knights in service to King Edward I in thirteenth century England.

This is one of the projects I’ve had in the works for a lot of years and thankfully I was able to focus my efforts on the first book of the series during this past year. It took a lot of persistence and even more editing to finally see Heart of the Hawk, the first book in the series, finished and on it’s way to publication. I’m excited to focus now on the next two books in the series.

Lots of Changes Happening!

I am updating my website and blog to reflect the changes that are happening in my life.

After (too many) years, I am finally on the road to becoming a published author. I can’t say too much about it yet, but my first novella will be published in August 2023, and my first full-length medieval romance will be published later in 2023. It will be book one of a series called Band of Bastards.

The books are sent in thirteenth-century Great Britain along the border of Wales and England during the reign of King Edward I. Like all periods of the medieval era, there is a lot of political intrigue, nobles fighting for dominion, and people just trying to survive in the midst of it all.

The women are bold and the men are broody. There will be castles, knights, sword fighting, and, of course, lots of romance and passion.

I’ll be posting updates here soon with more information about publication dates, story teasers, and where you can find my books.

It’s going to be a grand adventure and I can’t wait to get started!
